Brigadier General Richard A. Shook Jr.
Vice Director of Joint Capability Development with U.S. Joint Forces Command, Norfolk, Va.

Brig. Gen. Richard A. Shook Jr. is the Vice Director, Joint Capability Development, U.S. Joint Forces Command, Norfolk, Va. He serves as a principal adviser to the USJFCOM Commander in matters concerning joint capability development, interoperability and integration. He advocates for the identification and assessment of doctrine, organization, training, materiel, leadership and education, personnel, and facilities recommendations to resolve mission critical combatant commander, joint task force, multinational, and interagency interoperability and integration shortfalls.  The general entered the Air Force in May 1978 as a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy. His assignments include command and staff positions in U.S. Joint Forces Command, Air Education and Training Command, and Air Combat Command. General Shook's combat assignment included duty in the Combined Air and Space Operations Center in Southwest Asia during operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. He transitioned to the Air Force Reserve in 1989 and is a senior pilot with more than 2,200 hours in the T-37, T-38 and F-15.
