Maj. Gen. Edgington is responsible for managing the command's warfighting initiatives and providing guidance to the command's executive staff on day-to-day matters. Additionally, he supervises all of the command's administrative issues.
Edgington entered military service after graduating from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1977. A distinguished graduate of navigator training, he has flown the F-111 and F-15E in operational assignments, and the T-43 as an instructor.
He has served in staff positions on the Air Staff, Joint Staff and in Europe as aide-de-camp to the commander, Allied Air Forces Southern Europe. He later served as special assistant to the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), where he served as the air power adviser to SACEUR during NATO's Operation Allied Force in Kosovo.
The general has commanded the 4th Operations Group and 4th Fighter Wing at Seymour Johnson AFB, N.C., and he was the operations group commander for the Air Force's third Aerospace Expeditionary Force deployment in Southwest Asia. He also served as deputy commander of Combined Air Operations Center 6, Turkey, where he led NATO's first Article 4 defensive operation, defending Turkey during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
He has also served as director of the global power programs, office of the assistant secretary of the Air Force for acquisition. He also served as the director of the Air Component Coordination Element, Multi-National Force-Iraq, Air Combat Command, Baghdad, Iraq.
Before assuming the responsibility of USJFCOM chief of staff, he served as USJFCOM's director of capability development.
In addition to his bachelor's degree in civil engineering, the general holds a master's degree in systems management from the University of Southern California, a master's degree in international relations, Troy State University and a master's degree in national security and strategic studies, with distinction from the Naval War College. He also attended the Air Command and Staff College, Maxwell AFB, Ala. and the Advanced Management Program, Carnegie-Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Penn.
A master navigator with more than 2,700 flight hours, he has earned the Distinguished Service Medal, the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal. He also wears the Air Medal, Aerial Achievement Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Air Force Achievement Medal and the NATO Medal (Kosovo) and NATO Meritorious Service Medal.
