Assistant Chief of Staff, Undersea Warfare Division
Captain David Beyrodt, of Baltimore, Maryland, graduated from the University of Maryland in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. Following nuclear power training in Orlando, Florida and Idaho Falls, Idaho, Captain Beyrodt was assigned to USS GEORGE BANCROFT (SSBN 643) from January 1982 to February 1985 where he served in various Engineering Division officer billets.
Following his initial sea tour, Captain Beyrodt reported to Navy Recruiting Area Four in Columbus, Ohio for duty as the Officer Nuclear Power Recruiting supervisor for the six states in Area Four. His initial department head assignment was Strategic Weapons Officer on board USS GEORGE C. MARSHALL (SSBN 654) in Groton, Connecticut followed by duty as Navigation/Operations Officer on board USS SANDLANCE (SSN 660) in Charleston, South Carolina.
From June 1991 to July 1993, Captain Beyrodt served as Company Officer at the United States Naval Academy. Following Executive Officer training, he was assigned as Executive Officer on board USS BALTIMORE (SSN 704) from September 1993 to November 1995. As Executive Officer, he completed a North Atlantic deployment and pre-deployment training for battle group operations. In December 1995, Captain Beyrodt reported to The Pentagon for duty as the action officer for submarine modernization on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations in Washington, DC.
From April 1997 to April 1999, Captain Beyrodt was Commanding Officer of Deep Submergence Unit, San Diego, California. From May 1999 to April 2002, Captain Beyrodt was Commanding Officer, Submarine Squadron Support Unit, Norfolk. From May 3, 2002 to June 2004 Captain Beyrodt was Commanding Officer, Submarine Training Facility, Norfolk. From August 2004 to October 2007 Captain Beyrodt was the SUBLANT Plans and Policy Officer-N5 and COS Allied Submarine Command. On October 2007 Capt Beyrodt reported to COMOPTEVFOR as the ACOS for Undersea Warfare Division (N40).
Captain Beyrodt’s personal awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit (two awards), Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various unit and defense commendations.
He is married to the former Marlene Kovarie of Levitown, Pennsylvania. They have five children, Nancy, Charlie, Michael, Ellen and Gretta. They reside in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
