Mr. Matt Borst
NCIS Special Agent

A graduate of Vanderbilt University in 1997, Mr. Matthew L. Borst has been a Special Agent with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) for eight years. With several successful years in the contracting industry in and around Washington DC behind him, Mr. Borst joined NCIS in 2003. His career has found him, as with all agents, working a wide range of projects, from product misplacement and contract fraud to personal security details. As a plank owner of the Contingency Response Field Office (CRFO), between Dec 2004 and May 2008, Mr. Borst deployed to Iraq and Africa where he had several interesting experiences, including actively protecting United Nations personal and supporting the Extrajudicial Killings Task Force, where he assisted training Iraqi criminal investigators.

It was during his time in Iraq that he first became directly involved in counterintelligence with a deployment to the Strategic Counterintelligence Directorate-Baghdad. Subsequently, over the last several years Mr. Borst has focused his career on counterintelligence/ counter-terrorism operations, and has recently moved to the Norfolk/Hampton roads area in Fall 2010 after a number of years in Naples, Italy. Mr. Borst is currently heading a counterintelligence outreach program designed to improve communications and support to local area defense contractors.

Mr. Borst is passionate about his work, and is motivated by the desire to protect the personnel of the United States Military. His work in the CI/CT field has lead him to receive a number of awards including the DON Meritorious Civilian Service Award, DOD Counterintelligence Director's Special Award, the Joint Civilian Service Commendation Award, among others.
